We were there

it has been an emotional week for all of us since monday.
our founding father, Mr. Lee (aka Ah Gong) left us.
the whole nation went into mourning mode, and we got into really intense "revision" of the singapore history. our history. our lives.
we may have forgotten the past, forgotten the fact that everything we have today was due to the hard work and perseverance of this great man and his team.
it's time for us to remember and keep it with us again.
"merdeka! merdeka!" we hear this familiar voice shouting from our tv screens. as i found out more about this great man, this pain started to radiate from my heart. i felt stifled with the sudden choke in my throat. by the end of the day, i find myself weeping.
regrets for not knowing enough of our history? for not knowing Ah Gong better?
yes.
but the bigger part of it was gratefulness. n the guilt of not appreciating what we have right now.

my bro, baby and i went to the parliament house yesterday to pay our last respects to the great man.
never mind the Q for 6 hours.
never mind the heat.
never mind the people who cut our queue.
for once, our objective was clear.
for once, all the wait was worth. for once, we can say singaporeans unite together to create a small part of history, for you know, this will never ever happen again in singapore.
never.
it will only happen once.
for him.
for Mr Lee.
for you and me, as singaporeans.
and there, we saw the kindness of fellow singaporeans (who say we don't have a heart?).
shop keepers along the way offered drinks, food and chairs, staff from banks offering packet drinks as well. strangers from the queue offered help to "chope" your place while you can go for toilet breaks or just to sit down in the shady corner.....
trust me, we care.
as we proceed with our long walk down by the singapore river, baby told me that it was like a walk down the memory lane. looking at the high-rise buildings, the historic sites, the clean river, it was hard to imagine how much our forefathers went through to build what we see now. we asked ourselves "what does it look like before? was the river really filthy 50 years ago?" we finally have the time to slowly appreciate what was done for us. it was indeed, the walk of our history.

the moment happened fast. and before you know it, it was over.
no one lament about it. because we know, we want all of us, singaporeans, to be part of it. to be in it. together, united as one.
this will be what Mr Lee wants. what he always wanted.
this will be the last gift from us.
we stay united as one.

you taught us what was love and devotion, for the country, for the people, and for your loved ones.
you taught us the importance of discipline, being firm and objective.
thank you for your selfless contributions for us.
you gave us whatever we see, whatever we have today.
you gave us our lives.

谢谢你,李光耀先生。
Rest in peace, Mr Lee.

P.S: i sincerely hope that you can find Mrs Lee in heaven, although you've mentioned that it will be overcrowded up there...... :)

Restaurant Week 2015 + staycation

yawn.
it has been really stifling after we've came bk fr bkk.
muz b the holiday mood. cant really get back to momentum in work.
or was it the work? time to really look out for new opportunities i guess.
i will stop ranting. dun wan to turn this post i into a grumpy one.
it was the time of the year again! yup, restaurant week. baby n i enthusiastically (but with ultimate control nt to "over book" this time) went for 2.

egg bon bon w truffles and leek emulsion. soft n tender poached egg w truffle on top. wat can go wrong?
ballotine of chix n foie gras w mushroom emulsion. awesome! tender n juicy chix w foie gras.....flavorful. v nice.
we ordered this capellini w scallop n caviar. sweet scallop w caviar, cappellini w truffle oil.....super tasty n refreshing!
不知道在笑什么鬼。
seabream w seafood and pesto. fresh n light.
striploin w onion n jus. AWESOME!!!! the beef was juicy n melt-in-your-mouth texture.....one of the better executed beef dish i've eaten. delicious.
strawberries w white choc n sorbet. perfect end to the meal
we might b back for more. good food.

baby n i took leave to "siam" some boliao activities. 
went to rws to check out some fishes.

 went to MS for dinner, n this plc sells awesome handmade noodles n buns!!!!! our fav shop for noodles n buns nw.

 we will nv miss the desserts if we were in the vicinity. awesome.

 we took leave for our staycation. this was lunch b4 we checked in. delicious artery clogging foie gras w yuzu jam
 baby's salad was really refreshing too
 this was the best duck confit i've had period. crispy skin, nt oily at all, w sweet tender flesh.....good stuff.
 baby's iberico pork collar. grilled juz right, tender n juicy pork w smoked flavor....v good!

 desserts were pretty ok too. love the vibe here. food is really good. we will b back soon!

soaked ourselves in a bubble bath drinking champagne at the same time. no, this is the best u get. no naked pix.
room service for bfast after a good nite's rest!!! love it here.
 another restaurant week's lunch. mod-sin cuisine. this was the modified "kaya and egg toast'. sous vide egg w mashed potato n iberico ham, tomato puree . ok la. so so.
 super warm dat afternoon. we were sitting at the window/side doors, n the sun was juz baking us alive.
 drink more water better
 this was the modified hainanese chix rice. omg. this was REALLY GOOD!!!!!! chix roulade was super crispy outside, juicy thigh meat inside, wrapped w minced chix, onions. the chix rice risotto was full of robust flavor, al dente, w the garlic chilli jam n ginger salsa......ang mo styled chix rice!!!!! FANTASTIC!!!!!
deconstructed bur bur cha cha. coconut sorbet w deep fried sweet potato fritters, yam chiffon cake n pandan sago.....perfect ending to a meal. wat a fantastic experience. we consider to come bk for dinner, when it is nt so hot!

i think we need to hit the gym more frequently nw, after all these calorie loading events.
